Some things change while others stay the same

Time to introduce what some of you have noticed as a new race. Yes there is a new race in the stable of Superfit Productions. The race is called SD’s Down and Dirty Half and 10k and is replacing the Dirty 2nd Half. The courses will be the same as in 2011 with the only thing being different is the name. Hit the link above to check out the new logo which a select few will recognize from a while back.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey all, I hope 2011 wrapped up nicely for you all and 2012 is going to be a great year. Here at SuperFit Productions things are ready to roll for then new year. Registration is open for all dirty races in 2012. One change to note is the name of the Dirty 2nd Half has changed to SD’s Down and Dirty Half. The Date of the event is also a couple of weeks later. This is an attempt to avoid all the craziness around the first part of October. Hit the link below to get to Ultrasignup and register for the events. You can also reach the link from the event tabs at the top of the page.

Trails in December

It is snowing as I type. Finally. Had a great run out on the Horse Butte 10 miler course and it was in amazing shape. Weather forecast is for a return of some dry weather so the trail will likely firm back up so if you are in Bend, Or get out on the trails if time allows.

Possible view on the way back in.

That was some grippy dirt.

On borrowed time

We are staring December in the face here in Central Oregon and have been enjoying some unseasonably warm and dry weather. Trails for the most part down low are in amazing shape especially considering the time of year. Being the seasoned Central Oregonian I know better than to think that this is going to last. Right now every day without snow and cold is a gift and we should all be taking full advantage. I am as excited as the next guy to strap on some skis and hit the mountains when the time comes but right now the trails are in such good shape and the snow cover up high is less than ideal so I have been trying to run and mountain bike as much as time allows.

The picture below is from a mtb ride this past Sunday (Nov 27th) on Horse Ridge trail system just east of Bend. Usually this is a hot spot in the winter as it tends to be clear and the lack of tree cover lets what winter sun is available in February warm you as best it can. I was amazed to find it completely clear and even a little on the dry side. So wherever you are I hope you are having fun outside and if you are in Oregon get out there as this can’t last forever.

Peace out, sd

A little past and present and a little future

A vet kicking ass

Happy Veterans Day everyone! This is hands down the earliest I have ever put out a upcoming schedule so this could be the year I get a teeny bit more organized on the communication front. It is also way late for a wrap up so balance ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. I look forward to seeing you all again and hopefully seeing some new faces at the races.

2011 was a great year and here at Superfit Productions things are already ramping up for 2012. Before talking too much about 2012 I would like to thank any and all who came out and participated, volunteered and cheered any of the events from the past year. Without these folks coming out races no matter where they are would never happen.

For 2012 we have largely the same schedule with a couple of changes. For the Flagline Trail Fest we are eliminating the shorter race courses from 2011. Going forward there will only be two options for the festival. Of course the 50k and a NEW half marathon called the High Alpine Half. The course will share the backside of the 50k course and will be a vast improvement in terrain, views, support, and just about every aspect when compared to the Bachelor Butte Half from 2011. Also the Dirty 2nd Half will be renamed to something else and be moved more to the end of the month of October to get out of the way of the event crazy end of September and first two weekends of October.

Other than that I may throw out some new races but they are still in the planning stage for right now but I am hopeful that they will become a reality so stay tuned for more info.

An evening out with trail running

On Friday September 23rd 2011 from 6-8 Superfit Productions will be hosting an event with trail running as the focus. In conjunction with packet pick up for the Flagline Trail fest there will be an art show featuring the photography John Hlavacs and hopefully some submissions from you as trail runners. We would love to have some other submissions to have at the party. If you have a cool video, series of photos, a poem, or a short story to share please do so. Submit all entries to Super Dave superdave@superfitproductions.com. Please keep presentations to 3 minutes and under.

This event will also be a good opportunity to review the courses and maybe get some advice from ridiculously fast people.

Venue for the event is located one storefront directly north of the Footzone in downtown bend.

Twilight 5k

Going for round 2. This Wednesday August 17th the second annual Deshutes Brewery Twilight 5k will take place here in Bend. This 5k is centered around fun. With a great course along the Deshutes river, a beer garden serving Deschutes Twilight Ale, and a pro DJ to dance the night away. If you are in town Wednesday come on down and join the fun. Online registration is still open at www.time2race.com or stop down at the Footzone in downtown Bend and sign up. Day of race registration will start at noon down at the Deschutes warehouse lawn off of Shevlin Hixon dr. Hope to see you there.

Dirty 2nd Half

Just got the online registration at www.ultrasignup.com so you can get that done if it has been on your list. The race will be on October  2nd this year and will be the same course as last year. New for this year is the addition of the 7th mountain 10k option. The course will follow the same route as the half marathon only you will turn around a little sooner. Should be a fun one for an intro to trail running or for those who are not quite up for the half. The way I see it if you do the shorter one you get first crack at the Deschutes Brewery post race recovery drink. Whichever race you do it is going to be fun!

Flagline Trail Fest

2011 is off to a busy start and is working towards increasing the trail running race options here in Central Oregon. We have some great races already and Superfit is adding some new options to the calendar. This September 24th there will be 3 races added to the Flagline 50k that will go for the second time. I am calling it the Flagline Trail Fest and am hoping that it will be a great celebration of the sport of trail running.

Races that weekend will be

FLAGLINE 50K

BACHELOR BUTTE HALF MARATHON TRAIL RUN

CINDER CONE 5K TRAIL RUN

TRAIL FOX 1500M KIDS TRAIL RUN

All races will start and finish at Mt Bachelor’s West Village parking lot near the Nordic Center. More information will come on this event and I am currently in the process of launching an event specific website www.flaglinttrailfest.com

I am really excited to get out  there and plan some great routes and put this festival of trail running together. Please check back for more info. Registration will be on www.ultrasignup.com soon.
